Egg: This egg has not been photographed, as it has not been recognised as different at that stage. It looks identical to LIIIB4, but is a little smaller. No pigment can be seen, until just prior to hatching, and the oil globule is clear. The yolk has a rough surface. Incubation is about 30 hours.

Larva: The newly hatched larva has a cluster of black pigment spots mid-tail, and an opague patch in the dorsal finfold where the dorsal spine appears, while the finfolds have a granular appearance (B1). The dorsal spine appears by day 3, here shown on a 4-day larva (C). B: NH, C: 4 days (23°C).

This egg has only been recognised on 13 occasions, since it needs to hatch and survive for 3 days to see the dorsal spine development. Four larvae, all with the characteristic dorsal "spine", have been sequenced, matching the sequence of 6 adult fish collected locally (BOLD).

Most eggs have been seen in late summer (blue graph). The egg was not seen in the DHM samples.
